How much of your hand

A font covers a set of characters. You choose how wide that set is, per font, and you can widen it later without rewriting anything.

The sets

- Essentials — the letters, numbers and punctuation of everyday writing. Enough for notes, cards, letters and most of what people make. - Everyday — adds the common accents and marks that turn up in real text: café, naïve, currency signs, proper dashes and quotes. - Complete — the wide set, including accents for other European languages and less common symbols.

The wider the set, the more you write. That is the real cost — a wider set is more of your time at the writing surface, not a worse font.

Choosing

Pick Essentials for a first font. It is the fastest route to something you can install and use, and it covers most writing.

Move wider when you find yourself typing something the font does not have — a name with an accent, a currency sign, a proper dash.

Widening later

Nothing is lost by starting narrow. Widen the set and the extra characters appear as unwritten, waiting for you. Everything already in your hand stays exactly as it is.

What your tier can build

Everyday letters, numbers and common punctuation build at every tier. The wider sets are part of Pro.

Here is the part worth knowing: **you can write premium characters at any tier and we keep them.** They are held out of a Free font rather than discarded, and they appear when you upgrade and make the font again — no rewriting.
