What you'll need to write

A touchscreen, and something to write with. That's the whole list.

Best

A tablet and a stylus — an iPad with an Apple Pencil, or an Android tablet with an active pen. The screen is large enough to write at a natural size, and a pen carries pressure and tilt, so your line thickens and thins the way it does on paper.

Works well

A phone and your finger. The surface is smaller, so you'll write a little larger than usual, but the letterforms come through. Inkling knows the difference between finger and pen and adjusts the weight so a finger-written font doesn't come out looking like a marker.

A touchscreen laptop with a stylus. Fine for writing, and comfortable for reviewing.

Doesn't work

A mouse or trackpad. You can sign in, review your letters and download your font, but you can't write your hand with a mouse — nobody's mouse handwriting is their handwriting. If you're on a desktop without a touchscreen, start on your phone and come back to the desktop to download.

Mixing devices

You can write some letters on a tablet and others on a phone; your font is one project wherever you sign in. Try to keep to one writing instrument though — a font that's half pen and half finger can read unevenly. See Finger or stylus.

Paper

None. Inkling captures your hand directly from the screen. There's no scanning and no photo of a page.
