Adding letters to a font you've made

Three steps: write the letters, make the font again, install the new file.

Nothing you already wrote is disturbed. Adding to your hand is safe at any point.

Step by step

1. Open the font from your dashboard. 2. In the Letters room, find what is still missing and write it — What's missing. 3. Go to the Font room and make the font again. 4. Download and install the new file.

Your font does not update itself

This is the part people miss. A font file is a finished thing sitting on your computer. Writing new letters changes what Inkling holds; it does not reach into a file you already installed.

Until you make the font again and install the new one, your documents keep using the old one.

Both versions stay installed

Each font carries its own version in its name, so installing the new one does not replace the old. That is deliberate — a document set in the old version keeps looking the way it did.

It also means you must select the new version in your app. A document that still looks unchanged is usually still pointing at the old one. I installed it but an app can't see it.

Tidying up

Once you are happy, remove the older version from your system fonts so the list stays short. Removing an installed font does not touch your work in Inkling.
