I installed it but an app can't see it

Nearly always, the app was already running when you installed. Apps read the font list once, at launch.

Quit the app fully and reopen it. Not minimise — quit. On Windows, close every window of it; on Mac, ⌘Q rather than the red button. Then look again.

If that doesn't do it, work down this list.

Check you're looking under the right name

Your font is listed under the name you gave it, not "Inkling". Inkling adds a version to the name — so if you've made a font more than once, there'll be several entries next to each other. Pick the newest.

This also explains a font that appears but looks like an older draft: an earlier version is selected. Choose the latest and the document updates.

Check it actually installed

• Windows — Settings → Personalisation → Fonts, and search the name.
• Mac — open Font Book and search the name.
• iPad — Settings → General → Fonts.

If it isn't there, the install didn't complete. Run through Windows · Mac · iPad again.

Some apps can't use custom fonts at all

Most mobile apps, and some simple web editors, only offer their own fonts. No custom font will appear in those, including yours.

Still nothing

Restart the computer — it forces every app to re-read the font list. If it's still missing after that, tell us which font, which app and which operating system, and we'll work it out.
