Your hand is yours
What we collect, why, and the one promise everything else follows from.
The short version
- We turn your handwriting into a font. To do that we store the handwriting samples you write and the font files we build for you.
- We do not sell your personal data, and we never use your handwriting to build fonts or train models for anyone else. Your hand only ever makes your fonts.
- You can delete your account — handwriting, fonts, and sign-in — at any time, in the product.
What we collect
Account & identity. Managed through our authentication provider, Clerk. Depending on how you sign in, this includes your email address, name, and a provider account identifier.
Handwriting & font data. The core of the service: the stroke samples you write (coordinates, timing, and pressure or tilt where your device provides it), the letters they belong to, and the font files we build from them.
Payment data. Processed by Stripe. We receive confirmation of your purchase and limited billing metadata; we never receive or store your card number. See Stripe's privacy policy.
Usage & device data. Product events (features used, fonts built), and standard technical data (IP address, browser and device type, timestamps) needed to operate and secure the service. Our analytics never include the content of your handwriting or your text.
Cookies & storage. Authentication uses Clerk's cookies. Our analytics (PostHog) use browser localStorage, not tracking cookies, and we don't run session recording or advertising trackers.
Why we use it
- To provide the service — building and delivering your fonts (handwriting and account data).
- To process payments — via Stripe (payment and account data).
- To secure and debug the service — usage and device data.
- To improve the product — aggregate usage events, never handwriting content.
- To answer you — when you write to us, your message and address are used to reply.
What we never do with your handwriting
We do not sell your handwriting or font data. We do not use your handwriting to build, train, or improve fonts or models for other users or third parties. If that ever changed for a future feature, it would require your fresh, specific consent first — not a quiet policy update.
Who we share with
Only vendors that run the service on our behalf, under contract:
- Clerk — authentication and identity
- Stripe — payments
- Render — application hosting and storage
- PostHog — product analytics
- Anthropic — the reading model that helps line up your letters (Studio only; your handwriting is sent for the read and is never used to train it)
- Resend — transactional email
We may also disclose data where the law requires it, or as part of a merger or acquisition (with notice).
Retention & deletion
We keep your handwriting and font data for as long as your account is active. Deleting your account permanently removes your handwriting, your fonts, your sign-in, and the personal details attached to your analytics — font files you already downloaded stay yours, on your devices. Unsaved guest trials are removed after 7 days.
We do keep aggregate statistics about how the service was used — how long an account was open, which tier, how far it got — with nothing in them that identifies you.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, export, delete, or restrict processing of your personal data. Deletion is built into the product (Account → the deletion section). For access or export requests, email [email protected] — we respond within 30 days.
Security
We use industry-standard measures — encryption in transit and access controls — to protect your data. No system is perfectly secure; if a breach affects your data, we'll notify you as the law requires.
Children
The service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data.
Where your data lives, and changes
Data is processed and stored in the United States. If we change this policy, we'll update the effective date above, and notify you of material changes.
